In Greek, the middle voice is most often reflexive. In this example, the ball, being the object of the sentence, did the action of hitting me, being the subject of the sentence. A verb is functioning in the Passive Voice when the object of the verb does the action-I was hit by the ball. The verb here is functioning in the Active Voice. I am the subject of that sentence, and I am doing the action of hitting. A verb is functioning in the Active Voice when the subject of the sentence does the action-I hit the ball. In Greek, verbs have three primary voices: active, passive, and middle voice. In English, verbs have two primary voices: active and passive voice. A lot of times I try to avoid grammar but sometimes the meaning of the verse is inherent in the grammar, and this is one of those cases. I want to go into a little bit of English grammar with you. Scripture says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord.” I do not really think that is how it should to be translated or understood. We have got to tap in to the power of the Lord. I do not and you do not have the strength within ourselves to stand day after day against the Devil.

If you and I are going to stand day after day, it is going to be because of our connection with the Lord. The first thing that we will see here is that it is in the Lord. What does it take to stand day after day after day to beat that discouragement, to beat those feelings of emptiness, to beat those feelings of loneliness, to beat those feelings of nothing good is coming of this anyway, and just stand day after day with a vision?įinally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. What does it take to do that? Okay, that is what this teaching is about. You do know that you and I can stand against the Devil, day after day after day. You are not going to get a gun and get rid of the Devil, not on your life. When the trumpet blows and the role is called up yonder, if you are still standing with God, you have done the right thing. Three times it is the word histemi which is to stand against, but it is all standing. Stand, stand, stand, and stand, four times in four verses.

God has given us the spiritual armor so that we will stand day after day. Practically, for as many people as walk in the front door of a church, as many people get tired and walk out the back door. Sometimes you even wonder why you are standing of course, pastors around the world know that this happens. Nobody really cares out there.” The fight around you can get so intense that you seem to lose all your joy and your focus. I do not know how it is with you, but I know in my life that times occur when I just want to pack it in, throw in the towel and say, “Nobody is listening out there. He wants us to be able to stand without being hurt. God wants us to be able to stand without being discouraged.

(13) Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.ĭid you notice that the word stand occurs four times in four verses? We need to take this to heart because God wants us to be able to stand day after day after day after day for the Lord Jesus Christ. (12) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (11) Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (10) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. What is in the context that God really wants us to see? They seem to have so much inherent power that a lot of times we get kind of side-tracked by the armor that we do not pay attention to what is the used for. These pieces of armor seem so intriguing and so attractive. I am sure that we are all aware of the spiritual armor: the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, and the shield of faith. We are going to be covering the spiritual armor that is in Ephesians 6. I am John Schoenheit, and I welcome you to this months Spirit & Truth Fellowship teaching.
